NYONE MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT KATHY WEBSTER
It is my honor to serve as the president of this fine organization and to have the opportunity to continue to advance the initiatives of my predecessors, who have served diligently to lead our profession on many fronts.
This is indeed a pivotal time for our profession as we embrace the Robert Wood Johnson/Institute Of Medicine report on “The Future of Nursing”, along with many other challenges. The “vision” that nursing should assume leadership roles in the redesign of our healthcare system should propel us to be actively engaged in initiatives designed to best position us for the future. Membership in NYONE provides a vehicle for participation in the shaping of our future as a profession as well as for providing opportunities to serve as leaders in determining the future of healthcare.
One of our key initiatives has been the advancement of the entry level for nursing to the BSN. Our profession has struggled with this issue for many decades. Fortunately, we are now armed with research and “The Future of Nursing” report that support advanced education to ensure quality at the bedside, as well as to support a leadership role for nursing in our forever changing healthcare environment. The advancement of our “BSN in Ten” legislation will continue to be a top priority in 2012.
As our mission statement notes, our organization is for nurses who design, facilitate, influence, and manage healthcare services in New York State. We are an organization for nursing leaders from all settings and at all levels and have the potential to impact the future of our profession as well as that of the healthcare system.
